I’m very sensitive to the small signs of human unwillingness to pay taxes.
Or—to the small signs of human resistance to small wages.
Very sensitive to the request to “send it to the card” or “pay in cash.”
When I see sad staff, my first thought is: low salary.
A person, on some biochemical level, feels that their work isn’t properly valued.
In those moments, it’s especially sad that you can’t just transfer money to them directly.
I often imagine these men printing those little papers, cutting them out.
Or maybe their children do.
